Brokeswood Lodge, Tunbridge Wells

Beau Architecture has obtained planning consent for 3 contemporary houses on this sensitive site which has had an 18 year history of previous planning refusals due to its proximity to an AONB and ancient woodland. The 4-storey houses replace an existing chalet bungalow and have been carefully designed to respond to the steeply sloping topography of the site. The design approach was to give the appearance of smaller chalet bungalows whilst providing two further storeys of accommodation below the front entrance level.

The use of clay tiles, hipped roofs, and chimneys is a contemporary interpretation of the vernacular architecture of the surrounding High Weald AONB. The houses are highly sustainable with renewable energy designed into the scheme including banks of photovoltaic panels incorporated into the overall design aesthetic.
