Halliford Street

A scheme for nine residential flats approved by way of a new side and rooftop extension to an existing office building which was converted to residential use under Permitted Development.

Due to the necessity to maintain neighbouring rights of light, the design of the side extension was stepped away at each floor from the adjoining houses which provided the opportunity for a series of green roof terraces and planted verandas.

The elevational treatment was set out in a grid to mirror the exposed structural concrete frame of the existing host building. The grid then allowed for a series of infills or voids to create either internal living space or external terraces and balconies. The voids created within the frame allow the sky and climbing plants to be seen through the stucture.
